History of
The Hub
Since the 1970’s the people of Magor and Undy had the vision of a community centre being built on the land known locally as the The Three Fields site.
The land had been sold to the county council on condition it was used for social and recreational purposes. Over the years many people and groups tried to raise funds to build a centre, which was becoming ever more needed as the local population grew rapidly, but progress was slow. In 2017 a new group formed, ‘MUCH’, later established as a charity, with the intent of building a centre that would complement the proposed the Magor and Undy Walkway railway station. The new group, comprising local councillors, a member of Magor Action Group on Rail (MAGOR) and a number of local residents acting as volunteers and trustees moved things on by working with the local and county councils and by seeking a grant from the Lottery’s community fund.
Planning permission for building The Hub was granted in 2018. In July 2022, thanks to grants from Welsh Government and The Lottery Monmouthshire County Council gave approval for building to commence. The new building was completed in July 2023.
