Friends Of The Hub

Welcome

Our group aims to create more opportunities for people in the community to come together through events, workshops, and social activities.

A community survey carried out at the May Fayre in 2025 confirmed findings from previous surveys, highlighting areas where residents felt additional support and activities were needed. In response, the Friends of the Hub group was established. We reviewed and prioritised the survey outcomes and explored ways to meet these needs by making better use of the Hub’s available facilities and resources.

These activities are designed to reduce loneliness, strengthen social connections, and foster a greater sense of community within our local area.

We are also committed to promoting inclusivity. For example:

  • We work closely with the Au Some Café, a group that raises awareness of autism and addresses the lack of social opportunities for young autistic adults. They actively support our events and activities

  • We ensure that older members of our community are included and supported. Following requests from residents, we introduced whist drives, which have proved highly successful. Building on this success, we plan to launch Tea and Tech in 2026. This initiative will operate as an informal internet café where residents can bring along devices such as phones and tablets and receive advice and support from volunteers on technology-related issues. The sessions will also include guidance on fraud awareness and online safety.

Other events and activities organised so far include educational and social opportunities such as Italian and Spanish language classes, music quizzes, and guided community walks.
